As of September 25, 2017, macOS 10.13 High Sierra is publicly available for all Mac users to install. Office 2016 for Mac is fully supported on High Sierra. For the best experience, we recommend you update Office to version 15.38 or later.

  1. Office for Mac 2011, like most Microsoft products, has a support lifecycle during which we provide new features, bug fixes, security fixes, and so on. This lifecycle typically lasts for 5 years from the date of the product’s initial release.
  2. Aug 27, 2018 The latest (and last) update to Office 2011 for Mac is actually 14.7.7 AFAIK and this was released Sept 2017, not August 2018 as per your page shows.

Office 2016 for Mac

Mar 14, 2017  In the Microsoft Lync for Mac 2011 Update volume window, double-click the Lync for Mac 2011 Update application to start the update process, and then follow the instructions on the screen. If the installation finishes successfully, you can remove the update.

Office 2016 for Mac is fully supported on macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

If you encounter issues using Office 2016 for Mac, please send us feedback so we can address them. In Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, you can click on the Send a Smile icon in the top-right of the app. For Outlook, choose Contact Support from the Help menu.

15.34 and earlier

These versions are not supported on 10.13. In some cases, you may not be able to launch the Office apps. For example, users will see the following error message when attempting to launch Outlook 2016 ver. 15.34:

Office for Mac 2011

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Lync have not been tested on macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and no formal support for this configuration will be provided.

Since October 10, 2017, Office for Mac 2011* is no longer supported. This means there will be no new security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options, or technical content updates. Refer to the Microsoft Support Lifecycle for more information.

* Lync for Mac 2011 has a limited time of Extended Support for security fixes.

Microsoft has announced in a support document that Office for Mac 2011 will not be supported under macOS 10.13 High Sierra. It doesn’t go as far as to say the software will not work, but hints at this.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Lync have not been tested on macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and no formal support for this configuration will be provided.

Microsoft says that versions 15.34 and earlier are not supported, and you may not be able to launch the apps. You are advised to update to 15.35 or later, but even that’s no guarantee.

Not all Office functionality may be available, and you may encounter stability problems where apps unexpectedly quit. During the beta period for macOS 10.13 High Sierra, no formal support is available for this Office configuration.

We strongly recommend that you back up your existing data before trying the software. If you encounter issues using Office 2016 for Mac on High Sierra, please send us feedback so we can address them.

The company also advises that support for the 2011 suite ends next month – including security updates.

MacWorld notes that Mac users of Microsoft Office get second-class service from the company, offered only five years of security updates instead of the ten years given to Windows users, alongside often long-delayed porting of new features.
